As ‘Oisin and Tir na nOg’ is an Irish story it was important to us that we used Irish voice actors to narrate the story. For recording the narration we needed both a male and a female voice actor with an Irish accent. It was difficult to do this as we did not know many Irish people here, but thankfully Sarah came in to record for us and suited the role perfectly. Sinead also recorded for the female role. We booked the studio for two hours on Thursday 22nd of November and recorded several takes of both Sarah and Sinead to ensure that we had a perfect recording of the story.
It was difficult to find a male voice actor to fill the male role, but fortunately a friend of mine, Aaron, was available to record. Although he is not Irish, having done some voice acting in his Film degree he suited the role.
When developing the script, I created a list of Foley sounds that we could use for the story:
-Hunting sounds: Bow and arrow, sound of running, bushes being moved.
-Waves crashing, water lapping, stones being moved.
-Horse galloping.
-Feast sounds: plates/dishes being moved, men chatting, people laughing.
-Falling off horse.
Editing & Foley:
I assisted with editing during two sessions which were both several hours long. As the other members of my group had already done an editing session, the first I attended consisted of working with Sinead’s voice recording. The second editing session was used to edit Aarons voice recording and place Foley sounds into our piece. Unfortunately, the original Foley sounds we collected were lost, and so Sinead and I rerecorded the key foley sounds needed for this project.
